On Thursday, September 25th, the Adlers will offer a workshop in Kirby 104 at 4:00 pm entitled: “Preparation for Application to Graduate School in the Social Sciences”* and an evening talk at 7:30 pm, also in Kirby 104 entitled: “The Demedicalization of Self-Injury: From Psychopathology to Sociological Deviance.”*
Drs. Adler and Adler have authored numerous scholarly articles. They have also written many books including Backboards & Blackboards: College Athletes and Role Engulfment; Peer Power: Preadolescent Culture and Identity; Paradise Laborers: Hotel Work in the Global Economy, The Tender Cut: Inside the Hidden World of Self-Injury and Wheeling and Dealing. Their teaching and scholarship have been recognized with numerous professional awards. They are past editors of the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, and served as Co-Presidents of the Midwest Sociological Society (MSS). In 2010, the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction awarded them the George Herbert Mead Award for Lifetime Achievement.
