A number of events in 2021 have featured our A&S major alums– we are always grateful for their Lafayette pride and service to the College and our current students!
On April 27, the Gateway Career Center hosted an alumni panel on Careers in Social Justice, featuring Leah Godin, ’14, a double major in A&S and WGSS. Leah was an AmeriCorps VISTA Fellow after graduation and attended Columbia for her MS in Social Work. She is currently National Manager, Membership Services and Capacity Building at STRIVE.
Gateway hosted a virtual career fair in Fall 2021 featuring Vanessa Youngs ’07, a double major in A&S and Economics, as the keynote speaker. Vanessa earned her MS in Urban Policy and Management from the New School and worked in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget as a senior revenue analyst. Following her work at OMB, she was a White House Intern for the National Economic Council focusing on the role of women and African Americans in the economy. She is currently an Assistant Vice President – Strategic Planner at Moody’s Investors Service in the Office of the President. Vanessa discussed starting her career on the cusp of the Great Recession and her transition from government into the financial services industry with a lecture titled “Stay Ready So You Don’t Have to Get Ready.”
Also this Fall semester, Association of Black Collegians and Lafayette Libraries sponsored a “Reading for Black Lives” book drive and virtual talk with Fayola Fair, ’19, founder of the Reading for Black Lives Project. Fayola was an A&S and Policy Studies major at Lafayette, with a minor in Africana Studies. Fayola became a Student Support Specialist for City Year after graduation and is currently earning an MA in Social Studies Education from Teachers College while teaching.
Thank you Fayola, Vanessa, and Leah for the terrific talks!
