Dr. Andrea Wright, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at William & Mary, was the distinguished presenter on February 24, 2022 at the A&S Department’s 3rd Annual Ethnographic Research Symposium. Prof. Wright presented on her book Between Dreams and Ghosts: Indian Migration and Middle Eastern Oil (Stanford University Press: 2021), based on a multi-sited ethnography of migrants as they travel from villages in India to oilfields in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The talk was entitled “Beyond Scarcity and Surplus: Labor and Oil in the Arabian Sea.”
The A&S Department’s annual Ethnographic Research Colloquium is funded by our Ethnographic Research Fund, and gives students of all years at the College an opportunity to discuss research techniques and challenges with leading ethnographers in anthropology and sociology. Thanks to Prof. Vora for organizing and to Prof. Wright for her visit!
